Here's something I first stumbled upon when I had my Panasonic FZ5: the Macro mode is useful for more than just shooting close-ups. If you use it to shoot people in the streets or portraits it can give you some of the sharpest images you can get out of this lens. Here are some examples from my Flickr page:

Those were taken with the FZ5, but I recently discovered that my Leica D-Lux 3 behaves the same way. I have no idea what's going on, though.

Macro mode

what exactly do you mean by Macro Mode? Scene preset? or macro auto focus? or something else?
